WFZX is a local radio station branded as 99.1 & 99.3 – The Vibe. It is licensed to Anniston, Alabama, USA. The station’s current licensee is The Jeff Beck Broadcasting Group, LLC. It airs Urban Contemporary Music programming. Developed in the last two decades, the genre is particularly popular with young urban audiences who also tend to enjoy Hip-hop, R & B, and soul music. Offering free online streaming, the station is now available on an app too.
HISTORY of 99.1 & 99.3 – The Vibe:
The station has a dynamic history of ownership. It is also interesting to note that the station’s format changed five times; however, the call sign changed four times only. The Anniston Radio Company opened WANA (1490-kHz 250-Watts) in 1954. In 1987, Joe A Burney- an early employee of WANA and Ann A Burney succeeded Car L. Graham, the station owner. With a new owner, Dewey D. Lankford in 2000, the channel switched to Urban Christian Contemporary music format. Jacobs Broadcast Group Inc bought it in 2006 and flipped the programming to Sports Radio. Finally in 2017, after stunting with several formats, WFZX switched to Urban Contemporary format.
In addition to playing the hottest numbers, WFZX airs community news, weather, sports, and events with local DJs. DJ ShadyNation goes on air at 3:00 PM with his show Afternoon Experience. DJ Steen who is also the Program Director 99.1FM, 99.3FM The Vibe- and DJ Illy Ill also air the Mix. The Morning Club is the famous show on the station; nonetheless, the station is notorious for experiencing dead air from time to time.
WFZX has two translators 99.1 W256BH in Oxford and 99.3 W257CT in Gadsden, Alabama. WTDR-FM, WTDR, WGAD, and WWGC are its sister channels. Licensed class C with facility ID 2311, the channel’s AM frequency is 1450 kHz. It is present on-air on both FM and AM frequencies. The station’s digital status is analog with unlimited hours of operation. With non- directional antenna mode, the station consumes the power, 1,000 Watts.
