BBC Pashto (بي بي سي پښتو) is a Pashto-language station of BBC World Service. This station has been launched since August 1981. And now it reached out to the 50-60 million Pashto speakers in Afghanistan and Pakistan. As well as it reached in the Pashtun community around the world. The first editor of this station was Nabi Misdaq.
Media work in Afghanistan:
It has worked about 10 years in Afghanistan for the betterment of its community, i.e., worked to spread the awareness of child health care and for the improvement of education, women’s rights, and supported discussions through its radio and TV channels. The debate program and flagship discussion of BBC Afghanistan are “Open Jirga” that enables people to question about the top official affairs that matter to them. It works in partnership with the Afghan Government and non-governmental organizations, media professionals and local broadcasters to provide people useful, helpful, reliable, and timely information across the country.
BBC Pashto Radio:
Her Voice, Her Rights; is the program BBC Afghanistan working on for the empowerment of women in Afghanistan. It is sustaining local media to generate radio programs. That purpose is to provide Afghan women an independent role in public discussions. And to improve their representation in the society as well as enhance their decision-making skills both at domestic and on the national level.
Afghanistan’s Open Jirga; is another most popular debate program. The purpose of this show is to interlink Afghans with their leaders by creating a dialogue between them.
Ghamai; This program is Supporting child health in Afghanistan.
It is tying together the authority of local and national radio to look after the child health in Afghanistan.
Future-corroboration-Afghan Media;
For future-proofing of Afghan Media, BBC (Media Action) has strengthened the financial management and lifted the editorial principles of five radio stations in Afghan Community.
It is also contributing to a firm media upbringing in Afghanistan.
BBC Media Action and Internews assisted a media discussion in Kabul. That intended to encourage, an extensive and long-term dialogue along with Afghan media leaders and Government, held on March 2013.
