About 2SM 1269 AM
Michael Kelly established Catholic Broadcasting Co. Ltd in 1931. Archbishop Michael Kelly inaugurated this station on 24th December 1931. Roman Catholic Church owned this station. The history of FM continues as The Family Station because of its conservative rules and followings. It shifted its studios to 357 Clarence St, Sydney, but kept the same traditional style. In September, Stephenson reviewed the 1063’s radical format and started broadcasting 24 hours a day. 2SM was re-inaugurated as Top 40 stations. It started opting for formulaic programming strategies of American commercial radio.
In 1967, it became the first one in Australia’s history which has opted for the new talkback technology. Then, in November 1968, it switched back from alternative to all music format. Till 1970, the public acknowledged it amongst the commercial innovation stations. Then, they gradually started adapting the More Music format of American radios.
Changes in 2SM AM 1269
These changes include the ways of announcing, music flow, and advertisement content. This newly introduced format brought several changes, including the conduct assigned to DJs. The consultant used this format to decide the programming schedule, not the DJs. It was at its zenith from the 1970s to the middle Eighties. Even after losing its popularity, the contemporary station still opted for the famous 2SM formula.
It earned a rating of 6.9%. In 1988, it rebranded itself as “Lite & Easy 1269” and switched to easy listening and country formats. After these changes, it did not rise above 4%. In the 90s, it re-switched to its current call sign. 1992 February, John Brown tried to buy FM. In July, Wesgo purchased this channel. After that, Wesgo inaugurated it again in the country format in October 1992.
It again switched to an easy listening format in May 1994. In March 1995, Australian Radio Network sold it to Kick Media. Hence, it rebranded itself as Kick AM in the middle of October with rock and blues. In 1996, RG Capital Radio Network became a 40% stakeholder of this station. The owner re-launched it as The New 2SM on 25th December 1996 with hit format.
