About ABC Triple J 101.5 FM:
On 19 January 1975, the station broadcasted its first show at 11:00 am under the callsign of 2JJ at the frequency of 1540 kHz. The station switched its frequency on AM band to 1539 kHz in 1978. The station was commonly known as Double J. In order to increase the frequency range, the station used to opt for ABC networks after midnight. The first presenter of Double J was DJ Holger Brockmann. He usually used to have a pseudonym of Bill Drake because his real name sound too foreign for the Australian public. Double J was free from the advertiser’s censorship codes because of being a government-funded station.
The station was under the influence of several ABC introduced programs (i.e., Room to Move, Freewheeling programming of BBC Radio 1, and British pirate radio). Hence, this radio seeks inspiration from the UK and launched live-in-the-studio performances by pop and rock bands. After suffering from many of the political trials, the station received its FM license in 1932. It began broadcasting on the FM band at 105.7 MHz frequency and under the name of 2JJJ, which became Triple J later. The station used different on-air kinds of music as a Japanese pop show named Nippi Rock Shop and another Ambience music show name Jaslyn Hall.
In the late 1980s, Barry Chapman, a former program director of 2SM, became the general manager of Triple J. he began to consider the changing of format and get it more specific and Australian national related. Finally, in the 1990s, more programs like comedy programs and documentaries became an essential part of radio broadcasting. In 2006, Triple J had launched a TV series named JTV on ABC and ABC2, which is also available online. In 2008, it was renamed triple j TV.
