89.1 Max FM is a radio station broadcasting a modern rock music format. The station is branded as “89.1 Max FM.” It has licenses to Barrie, Orillia, Muskoka, and Canada. The radio broadcasting at 89.1 MHz on the FM band. Bayshore Broadcasting is the station’s owner and also manages its sister station CHGB FM. On June 1, 2009, Bayshore Broadcasting received CRTC approval and launched in late 2010. Initially, it was broadcast in an adult contemporary format and branded as Sunshine 89.1; We Play More. It rebranded as 89.1 Max FM on November 1, 2018, with a classic hits format.
FM is playing the best of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. The channel moved to a modern rock format on May 17, 2019, but retained its “Max FM” branding. Max has on-air rock and alternative music for the last three decades and plays five local songs a day. FM also plays artists such as Cage the Elephant, Black Keys, Nirvana, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Arkells, and many more. The station’s mission is to deliver a place to discover new music from our backyard and worldwide. It airs its transmission in the English language for 24 hours worldwide on the internet through live streaming.
