History of 1460 CJOY

On June 14, 1948, Wally Slatter and Fred Metcalf launched Guelph’s first radio station CJOY with 250 watts of power, on 1450 kHz (AM). FM flipped to 1460 kHz, powered at 10,000 watts day and 5,000 watts night on April 1, 1960. On July 26, 1972, both AM and FM stations got approval to shift their new studios and offices at 75 Speedvale Avenue E. Kawartha Broadcasting Co. Ltd. purchased CJOY Ltd and the Galt Broadcasting Co. Ltd. on April 28, 1987. In 1989, the corporate name changed to Power Broadcasting Inc. Corus Entertainment acquired the station in 1999. On August 21, 2008, the station applied to CRTC to move to 95.7 MHz frequency, and CRTC rejected the application on January 23, 2009. FM again applied on July 30, 2009, and on January 28, 2010, the application was again denied.
