CJTL Radio is a commercial radio station broadcasting at 96.5 MHz on the FM band. The call sign meaning is CJTL – Christ Jesus the Light. The station broadcast a First Nations and Christian radio programming from Pickle Lake, Ontario, Canada. When American missionary Frank Drown organized a group of FIRST Nations believers and applied to the CRTC for a radio broadcasting license for Pickle Lake, Ontario. In 2005 CJTL Radio began transmission.
The original Committee included many Members from NEFC. Those members were David Kanakakeesic, Jimmy Keesic, Gary Quequish, Jerry Quequish, David Traintanger, and Harvey Yesno. After that, NEFC received the license, and Frank purchased the land. CJTL “The Light” launched in October 2007. Its studios in Pickle Lake with a repeater also in Thunder Bay when a tower and studios were built. Through teaching and music 24 /7, the Gospel was on-air, and people started to be inspired by the hope of Christ in Reserve communities like Mishgegogagamaon.
The programming promotes the values of First Nations culture and incorporates the Gospel into people’s day-to-day experiences in these First Nations communities. Daily Programming includes teaching in Native Languages as well as English, Aboriginal Gospel, and Music, and Contemporary Christian Music all through the night. The channel’s top shows are Story Teller at 10:30 PM CST and Tribal Trails daily at Midnight and 10:00 AM. Listeners can listen to the station’s transmission on its official website.
