Flow 98.7 is a broadcasting radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, carrying an urban contemporary radio format. The station’s owner is CINA Media Group. The station’s studios and offices are on Kern Road in the North York Don Mills neighborhood. On October 3, 2011, G98.7 went on air under the management of Intercity Broadcasting Network, a firm that Fitzroy Gordon, a Jamaican-Canadian broadcaster, created. The Greater Toronto Area’s Black Canadian community of Africans and Caribbeans was served by the station’s first urban adult contemporary programming.
It broadcasts a variety of genres, including smooth jazz, gospel, R&B, soul, reggae, soca, and hip-hop. Gordon passed away in 2019 and discovered that the station had been running up debt. After that, it went into receivership, and in 2020 an Ontario court mandated that CKFG sold. In September 2021, Neeti P. Ray’s CINA Media Group, a broadcasting company that specializes in multicultural programming, would purchase CKFG. In February 2022, its new owners promised to keep CKFG in its current format. As part of the rebranding of both stations, CINA announced an arrangement with Stingray Radio to move the historical Flow branding from CFXJ FM to CKFG. The station’s adequate radiated power (ERP), with a peak of 1,000 watts, is 446 watts. FM transmitter is atop Toronto’s First Canadian Place. Coverage Area of Flow 98.7
The signal of CKFG is weak compared to the thousands of watts broadcast by most commercial FM stations in Toronto. It reaches Milton, Oakville, Brampton, Aurora, and Pickering, in addition to a portion of Toronto. However, CBLA-repeater FM in Peterborough frequently interferes with CKFG reception in the northeastern GTA, particularly in the Scarborough region. In May 2014, Intercity applied a re-broadcaster on 102.7 MHz as part of the CRTC’s call for applications of new radio stations to address this interference in Scarborough and the Durham Region. On November 5, 2014, the CRTC rejected the application and gave East FM a new license, allowing them to start CJRK-FM on that frequency.
