History of Sauga 960 AM

Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved operating a new English-language news/talk AM radio station in Mississauga to Elliot Kerr, the Mississauga Steelheads, an Ontario Hockey League team, on November 22, 2011. Kerr began airing 101 hours of local news and talk content weekly on a 960 kHz frequency. A radio channel previously used this frequency in Cambridge, Ontario, which migrated to the FM band as CJDV-FM. However, due to difficulty finding a site for the station’s transmitter tower, Kerr could not begin broadcasting in 2012. After that, CRTC was allowed to decrease the transmitter power from 2,000 to 700 watts during the daytime and 180 to 104 watts at night. In August 2013, Kerr announced FM would like a soft launch on September 4. It started its full schedule programming on October 29, 2018.
