VOWR 800 (Voice of Wesley Radio) is a Christian community broadcasting radio station airing live transmissions from St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Labrador, Canada. Wesley United Church of Canada managed and operated the station’s broadcasting. It began its transmission on July 24, 1924, under the call sign 8WMC, which means the Wesley Methodist Church. Reverend Joseph G. Joyce started the channel. It airs a mix of 30% religious programming and 70% secular shows.
It plays a mixture of classical, folk, country, Oldies, military/marching band, adult standards, and beautiful music. FM also entertain its listeners by playing music from the 1940s through the 1970s. Besides this, it broadcast informational shows, Consumer Reports, interviews, entertaining programs, weather/traffic updates, and talk shows. VOWR 800 transmits an 800 kHz frequency on the AM band. It is a class B station and operates with a radiator power of 10,000 watts (day) and 2,500 watts (night). It offers worldwide transmission via live streaming on the internet.
