Owner’s struggles – Ramesh Hangloo:
The founder of Sharda- FM 90.4, Ramesh Hangloo has a history involving a series of events which inspired him to establish this channel. Ramesh lived in exile in Jammu for long as 25 years. The first ten years of exile were tough; he lived to survive from Kashmir valley conflicts. It taught him more about life and values. In the following years, he along with some members of the refugee camp decided to work for the community’ betterment and engage in healthy and productive activates. This dedicated group of people started to work for values, education and most importantly, for culture.
Radio has played an important role in history. It became popular with its advent. It was the only source of entertainment and information back in the late 19th century and till the advent of television. There was much advancement made in radio programs over time. In the beginning, the live orchestra was played, and there were no sources to record the tracks. Later, recording methods and studios were introduced which also increase the quality of radio production. With its popularity, almost every country has radio stations working for different purposes. Here, we will have an in-depth look at Sharda-FM 90.4 a Radio belongs to Indian Kashmir.
The Beginning
In 2007, Ramesh got inspired by licensed radio run by a British group, working for preserving culture. Here, the idea of establishing a licensed radio was born. The vision and ideology of creating this channel were to preserve, promote and revive cultural values and traditions of Kashmir. Through the radio platform, he worked to engage Muslims and Pandits to create a bond of peace.
Initially, no one supported his idea, but he was passionate about it for the sake of Kashmir. He sold his assets to arrange finances for his channel. Thus, going through struggles and criticism, 90.4 FM was launched on 5th December in 2011 at lower Buta Nagar in Jammu.
