History of Hank FM 97.1:
It first aired as WSVL-FM on November 6, 1964. In 1980, Emmis Communications bought this radio. The call signs changed into WENS on June 4, 1981. It had an adult contemporary music format. In 1994, the station was renamed as 97-1 WENS, the “Best Mix of the 70’s, 80’s, and the 90’s”. Then from 2000, it was known as “Mix 97-1”. In March 2005, WENS moved to a country music format. The new nickname “Hank FM” for the station’s new call letters WLHK was given.
