In the beginning, General Electric was the owner of this channel. The station began its transmission on December 15, 1924. It used 5,000 watts, but in 1927, the station gained 12,500 watts power to run its programming. In 1929, it affiliated with NBC. On July 7, 1934, 50,000 watts began to run its programming. In June 1953, Metropolitan Television Company bought it. This company sold it to GE in 1968. In 1983, Belo Corporation became its owner. Jacor Communications bought this station in 1987. In 1999 Clear Channel Communications took its ownership.
