Branded as 104.7 WZZK, the station’s slogan is “Commercial Free Country”. With no live studio and DJs, the new station was automated initially. During the 80s and the ’90s, WZZK was ranked among the top 3 radio services. WQUS, WBHM, and WIKX were strong competitors in the market. In 1973, the station became an all-time album rock service with the new call sign, WZZK. In 1977, a new competitor, WVOK-FM (K-99) debuted airing album rock format, completely knocking WZZK off and making it shift to a country music format in 1978.
