Sky Sports Radio is a radio shows commercial broadcasting station situated in Sydney, New South Wales. The coverage areas include New South Wales and Canberra through the network of 140 narrowcast transmitters. The format is racing and sport. Therefore, the content broadcasted on this station consists of live commentary of different sorts of sports (i.e., thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound racing). The estimations show that over 1500 races are broadcasted per week. It broadcasts the pre and post-race forms of commentary as well. Sky Racing owns this station.
About Sky Sports Radio
Emil Voigt launched this station with 2KY on 31st October 1925 at the frequency of 1925. At that time, the Labor Council of New South Wales owned this station. The main aim of launching this station was to entertain and inform the public of weather updates, market reports, debates on the burning issues, and other educational-related concerns. It switched to the frequency of 1020 kHz AM in 1935. In 1949 it started night broadcasting. In 1960, it began broadcasting the commentaries related to thoroughbred racing from 2GB.
Furthermore, it began broadcasting Saturday afternoon racing shows by the mid-1970s. In 1978, it began operating on the present frequency. In 1992, it strengthened the foundations of a statewide network of narrowcast transmitters. 2KY is known to be the pioneer of Digital Audio Broadcasting in Australia. In 2001, Sky Racing bought 2KY. It rebranded 2KY as Sky Sports Radio in 2009. Initially, the studios were based in Parramatta and moved it to Frenchs Forest in 2015.
Programming
Sky Sports Radio broadcasts racing conferences from different platforms, i.e., New Zealand and Hong Kong. One of FM’s main shows is The Big Sports Breakfast, which on-airs sports from local and international platforms. Michael Clarke and Laurie Daley are hosts of this station. These two are the main presenters of this station.
