CJBQ is a Canadian heritage broadcasting radio station licensed to serve in Belleville, Ontario. It broadcasts at 800 kHz in C-QUAM AM Stereo. Its format includes country, oldies, and adult contemporary. The brand name of the channel is CJBQ 800 AM. It airs mostly local programs such as local news, provocative talk, unforgettable personalities, reports, weather updates, information, and hot music. It also provides live broadcasts of Belleville Senators hockey games. Its transmitter is based in Prince Edward County. The antenna is a six-tower array with differing patterns day and night. CJBQ is the only Canadian AM radio channel operating between Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area as of November 2020. 800 AM Belleville radio airs 24 hours of transmission on the official website and station’s mobile app.
History of CJBQ Radio
CJBQ 800 was established in 1946 on AM 1230, and in 1957, it flipped to its current frequency. In 1975 and 1979, semi-satellites in Bancroft (CJNH) and Trenton (CJTN) `were added. In 2000, the Bancroft station was sold. It adopted an adult contemporary (“hits of the present and past”) format. In 1993, it changed to a full-time country format. The station’s music format is predominantly gold-based adult contemporary spanning the 1960s through the 2010s, with some classic country and oldies mixed in. The station has proudly served as The Voice of Quinte. It uses the slogan “Your Hometown Radio Station.”
