Cool 106.3 is a Canadian broadcasting radio station airing live transmission from Sarnia, Ontario, and licensed to serve Port Huron and Michigan. The station broadcast class hit format at 106.3 MHz on the FM band. The station is also known by its brand name Cool 106.3. Blackburn Radio owns the channel as well as its sister station CFGX FM and CHOK. Its call sign is CHKS FM, and it transmits in HD. Its programming content includes sports, news, information, entertainment, events, concerts, song requests, music, and local community stories. 106.3 Sarnia transmission is available for 24 hours on the internet through live streaming.
History of Cool 106.3
In 1969, Dancy Broadcasting established the station with the call sign CKJD as an AM station. Initially, it transmits contemporary MOR format. Its original frequency was 1250 AM. In 1972, Rogers Communications acquired the channel and switched to 1110 AM in 1977. Rogers also launched FM sister station CJFI in 1981. In 1987, Maclean-Hunter subsidiary Blue Water Broadcasting purchased CKJD and CJFI. It also adopted a country format with the new call letter CKTY.
