1053 2CA is an Australian radio station that broadcasts commercially in the English language in Canberra. The stations’ transmission is based mainly on classic hits and old music of the 60s and 70s for the audience of middle-aged people of 35 and more. The transmission frequency was 1050 kHz until 1978, afterward changed to 1053 kHz. This studio is jointly owned by Grand Broadcasters and Capital Radio Network Pty Limited.
History of 1053 2CA
FM first went on air on the 14th of November, 1931, on a 1050 kHz frequency. Later on, the station changed its frequency to 1053 kHz in 1978. From its coming into existence till now, the 2CA station has changed various locations in the area. Moving from 64 Northbourne Avenue to the second story of the Jolimont Building and then to Northbourne Avenue again. The office of the 2CA station had to be vacated and displaced in November 1993 after a car crashed into the Jolimont Building.
During the 1990s, Austereo, the official holder of 2CA and 104.7, and ARN, the official proprietor of 2CC and Mix 106.3, both formed a joint project proprietorship, including both the stations naming it Canberra FM Pty Limited and trading off both 2CA and 2CC to the Capital Radio Network. Since then, both stations 2CC and 2CA were displaced to a new location in Mitchell, which is still the current area of their transmission. Grand Broadcasters acquired 50% shares of Radio Canberra (2CA and 2CC) in order to bring into existence a combined project with the Capital Radio Network.
Famous Programs/Shows
The station airs a morning show hosted by Frank Vincent from 5.30 to 9 in the morning, then Marc McCreadie, who is a manager and a music director, hosts a show from 9 am till 2 pm. Afterward, Greg Robson hosts a show named ‘Robbo’ from 2 noon till 7 in the evening. After that, a show named ‘70s@7’ is the most hit show of the station airs from 7 to 8 pm. Then, ‘Your Song’ hosted by Larry Appley, goes on air from 8 till midnight. The other shows of this radio station are Jukebox Saturday Night and 60s Soundtrack.
