Le Loup FM 98.9 is a Canadian broadcasting radio station airing live transmissions from Sudbury, Ontario. Le5 Communications own the station. It began its transmission as550 AM CFBR on December 8, 1957, as a private affiliate of Radio-Canada and a sister station to CHNO. FM transmits francophone hot adult contemporary to the city’s Franco-Ontarian community. The station’s brand name is “Le Loup 98.9.” Its call letter is CHYC FM which means an available callsign that could be pronounced like the French word “chic.” CHYC and its sister stations CHYQ FM in West Nipissing and CHYK FM in Timmins are the only francophone commercial radio channels programmed fully in Ontario.
The three stations now essentially always simultaneously broadcast the same content, apart from commercials and local weather updates. Despite the fact that all three stations used to produce their own unique morning shows and then host a different daypart as part of a shared broadcast schedule for the rest of the day.
