Quebec City, Quebec, is home to the Canadian radio station CKRL FM 89.1, which broadcasts in French. The non-profit organization CKRL MF 89,1 Inc. owns the station and runs under a community radio license. Using an omnidirectional antenna, it transmits at 89.1 MHz with an adequate radiated power of 1,495 watts (class A). Edifice Marie-Guyart in Quebec City’s downtown was the station’s transmission location.
CKRL-FM was initially a campus radio station at the Université Laval and started broadcasting on February 15, 1973, at 5 p.m. The company’s name continued to be “Campus Laval FM inc.” for many years after this problem ended in 1984. In 1997, University’s 94.3 CHYZ-FM campus radio station was launched. The radio station is a part of the Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec. Radio’s tagline is “Cultive tes goûts” (Cultivate your tastes). CKRL FM 89.1 mission is to advance music and citizens.
