Énergie 98.9 (CHIK FM) is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts Contemporary Hits music and news from Quebec, QC. Bell Media owns and runs the station, which uses an omnidirectional antenna to transmit on 98.9 MHz with an adequate radiated strength of 41,000 watts (class C1). Mount Belair is home to the station’s transmitter. It is a part of the “Énergie” network, which broadcasts across all of Quebec and features a mainstream rock genre. Besides this, FM entertains the worldwide audience by airing up-to-date programming and contemporary music. Radio also broadcasts 24-hour transmission through live streaming on the official website.
History of ÉNERGIE 98.9 FM
CHIK began broadcasting on July 29, 1982, as a sister station to the now-defunct CJRP. To the requirements of each station’s license, it initially had easy listening programming. A few years after its launch, ÉNERGIE 98.9 changed its format to CHR due to the oversaturation of easy listening stations in the Quebec City radio market. Since 2011, FM has featured local DJs from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends, offering more local programming than other Énergie stations in Quebec.
