96.9 Rouge Saguenay (CFIX FM) is a French-language broadcasting radio station from Saguenay, Quebec, Canada. The former city of Chicoutimi, at Rue Racine Est, shares studio space with sister stations CJAB-FM and CFRS-DT, owned and run by Noovo. The channel broadcasts an adult contemporary format. Its programming content is based on the latest news, political news, interviews, stories, career opportunities, general discussion, and music. Besides this, the channel airs 24 hours transmission through live streaming on the internet worldwide.
History of 96.9 Rouge Saguenay
In 1986, the CRTC gave the station its license. As a sister station to the now-defunct CJMT 1420 with a beautiful music format, it began broadcasting on July 31, 1987. After the Radiomutuel and Télémédia networks merged to form Radiomédia (now Corus Québec), the latter network shut down on September 30, 1994. FM had a lovely music format up until 1992. After changing its format to adult contemporary, it changed its name to CFIX Rock-Détente and joined the “RockDétente” network. Astral Media updated rock Détente’s network with a new logo in 2004.
CFIX Rock-Détente became 96,9 Rock Détente. Consequently, the station no longer publicly uses its call sign (although the call sign was resurrected on the station ID in 2011). All “RockDétente” stations, including CFIX, changed their names to Rouge FM on August 18, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Before going silent in 1983 due to technical and financial issues, CFIX was the call sign of a now-defunct AM radio station at 1170 kHz out of Cornwall, Ontario.
