CFJO FM 97.3 is a French-language radio station broadcasting on FM stereo from Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada. It is transmitted with an adequate radiated power of 100,000 watts. Its slogan is “Le Meilleur de la musique,” which means “The Best of Music.” The station has studios in Victoriaville and Thetford Mines and shares facilities with its sister stations CKLD FM and CFDA FM for soft adult contemporary. The same transmitter covers both cities, and both studios contribute to the station’s broadcast schedule. Thetford Mines, nonetheless, is considered the station’s principal city of license. Its programming lineup includes news, entertainment, information, weather updates, traffic reports, interviews, and music.
History of CFJO FM 97.3
In 1988, the CRTC initially approved the station. On July 15, 1989, media tycoon François Labbé, who previously owned several radio stations consolidated as the Réseau des Appalaches, debuted it on 103.3 FM. In 1997, it changed to the 97.3 MHz frequency it uses now. “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the artist Buggles was the first song to be broadcast on the radio in the year 2000. Attraction Radio, a Montreal-based company, announced plans to buy all of Réseau des Appalaches’ stations in April 2014; the CRTC has not yet approved the deal.
