98 Rock WIYY 97.9 FM is a commercial FM radio station. This FM has features modern and classical music, news, live sports, and talk shows. Hearst Corporation operates this station as an owner. It went in the air on December 7, 1958, to entertain the people. WBAL runs at 1090 on AM dial and WBAL-TV that is called channel 11. These channels are its sister stations. WFDS-FM (1958-1960) AND WBAL-FM (1960-1977) are previous call letters for this station. Now WIYY-FM is its present call sign.

WMAR-FM rise on for its programming in January 1948. A.S Abell Company runs it at 97.9MHz. This frequency continued until December 1958 when WFDS-FM upraised. The Hearst Corporation bought this station in April 1960. It changed its call sign to WBAL-FM. It turned into WIYY as 98 Rock brand on March 28, 1977.
