WDPT is now known as WIEZ 94.7 Decatur’s Music and branded as 1490 & 94.7 WIEZ. It is an American broadcasting service licensed to the city of Decatur, Alabama, and serves the western Huntsville, Alabama area. The station owned by MKRadio 1, LLC, airs soft oldies variety programming, whereas, during the fall, it carries Austin High School football games on Friday evenings.
About WIEZ 94.7:
Initially launched in 1953 as a WAJF Top 40 station, WIEZ is presently affiliated with ABC News and Accuweather. The FCC granted it the current call letters in 2009. Prior to 2009, the station began broadcasting with the call sign WDPT since 2006. Currently, it plays 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s famous songs for the listeners. This radio station is also offering online streaming for worldwide listeners.
WEKI changed its call letters to WIEZ and format to oldies from talk programming on March 8, 2018. Radio personality, DC programmer Chris Roth become a Program Director.
WIEZ filed an application to the FCC to change the ownership of the station and (W234DN) the 94.7 translators to its current owner on 3/4/2019. The station started carrying weather updates from Accuweather and news from ABC News in October 2019.
Several local hosts, including Hamilton Masters, Bill, and Dave, George “The Cardboard” Carden, Thom Collins, and many more, had been the part of the former WAJF. Each weekend, the station also aired the CBS Radio Mystery Theater at midnight.
